Effective Lecturing
| Preparing Lecture Notes | Vary Your Methods of Delivery | Getting Their Attention |
Preparing Lecture Notes
- Avoid lecturing from a script. Let your notes aid in your lecture delivery but not dominate it.
- Write down facts and formulas for easy reference.
- Rehearse your lecture, even if it's a condensed version.
- Plan how you will open the lecture. Try starting with an anecdote or current event to get the ball rolling.
Vary Your Methods of Delivery
- Incorporate audio, video, slides and other media.
- Vary your pace, ask questions, and solicit questions from the class.
- Use an animated voice, and incorporate dramatic pauses.
Getting Their Attention
- Use exaggerated body language.
- Move around the room.
- Show unpredictable and humorous behavior.
- Maintain eye contact with students.
- Project your voice and use a microphone whenever available.
